Birth dates for developers and AI

WhoWasBorn provides a public, read-only REST API and a stateless Model Context Protocol server. They share the Wikidata snapshot behind this site. No API key is required. Coverage is limited to notable Wikidata humans and is not exhaustive.

REST API

Use API documentation and the OpenAPI 3.1 contract. Public GET endpoints support birthdays, exact dates, people, search, birth years, zodiac ranges and snapshot metadata. Paginated lists accept limit (1–100) and offset; search returns up to 20 candidates.

curl 'https://whowasborn.com/api/v1/birthdays/12-13?limit=10'
curl 'https://whowasborn.com/api/v1/people/wikidata/Q26876'
curl 'https://whowasborn.com/api/v1/meta'

The API permits cross-origin GET requests. Limit: 60 requests per minute per IP. Respect HTTP 429 and Retry-After. Use data_version from metadata when requesting a versioned profile. Date-dependent responses expire at the next relevant midnight; ages must be calculated for the requested date.

MCP for AI clients

Connect an MCP client to https://whowasborn.com/mcp using Streamable HTTP. This is a POST protocol endpoint; opening the link in a browser returns 405. Include Accept: application/json, text/event-stream. No session ID or authentication is required. Limit: 30 requests per minute per IP; request body at most 32 KiB.

Tools: birthdays_on_date, birthdays_today, person_birth_date, search_people and age_on_date. Resources: whowasborn://meta and whowasborn://methodology. Prompt: who_shares_birthday. For example, call person_birth_date with query Q26876, or birthdays_on_date with month 12 and day 13. If a name matches several people, choose a QID before reporting a date.

Citable facts and uncertainty

A canonical Wikidata statement is a display choice, not independent verification. Preserve birth_date.status, source_kind, uncertainty, sources and alternatives. Disputed or imprecise dates do not support an exact age. A missing death date does not prove someone is alive. Birthplaces retain their original building or district alongside a resolved city and country where available; country data does not reconstruct historical borders.

Read the methodology, llms.txt and full AI reference. February 29 birthdays advance age on March 1 in non-leap years. Zodiac ranges are a fixed calendar convention.

License and attribution

Wikidata facts are available under CC0 1.0. Images retain their individual Commons licenses and credits; check the image record before reuse. Attribution to WhoWasBorn is appreciated: link the name to the relevant person or date page, and preserve original sources and disputed alternatives. MCP textual results include an attribution and page URL for citation.

Questions or corrections: hello@whowasborn.com. The site records only daily request counts by page type and claimed crawler family. API rate limits use IPs transiently in memory; no IPs or raw user agents are stored in usage counters.
