WhoWasBorn API and MCP

Public read-only Wikidata snapshot. No API key, cookies or tracking. Data: CC0; images have individual licenses.

Never interpret a canonical date or a synchronization as verification. Inspect birth_date.status, source_kind, uncertainty, sources and alternatives. Exact ages are withheld for ambiguity or missing precision. No recorded death does not prove someone alive.

GET requests allow cross-origin access. 60 API requests/minute per IP; 30 MCP requests/minute. Maximum request body 32 KiB, timeout 10 seconds. Respect Retry-After. Lists: limit 1–100 (default 20), offset 0–1000000; search: limit 1–20 (default 10).

Languages

All data routes accept lang=en,de,pt,es,fr,it (default en). Labels, descriptions, professions and places fall back from the requested language to mul, then en; missing descriptions stay null. No machine translation. URLs point to the requested language when the page exists; otherwise English. Raw snapshots and identifiers are unchanged. Each language has its own canonical and sitemap. Localized profiles need a local or mul label to exist and a description in that language to be indexable.

Today uses UTC unless tz is an IANA zone. February 29 ages increase on March 1 in non-leap years. Gregorian proleptic calendar, historical years without zero. Lists expire by UTC midnight; tz lists also expire at the next local date change. Profiles omit dynamic age and use snapshot ETags with long immutable caching; synchronize URLs with ?v=DATA_VERSION for snapshot-specific links; only the current snapshot is available for uncached requests.

MCP

Streamable HTTP, stateless JSON responses at https://whowasborn.com/mcp. POST JSON-RPC; Accept: application/json, text/event-stream. Official MCP clients can initialize, list tools and read resources. GET and DELETE return 405, no sessions.
